Problem:
When there is a dog (or another animal) present, the houesjold cat jumps
out from behind things and attacks the dog. Usually, a well-trained dog
retreats.
Reason:
Cats are usually very
territorial creatures and sometimes they don't accept other animals in
their terrotory.
Kittens often play "ambush"
with each other. So if another kitten isn't around, it plays with the dog(or
another animal) in the household.
Some notes:
Kittens aren't born
hatting or fearing other animals.
Kittens or cats who
have been well socialized (handled by humans a lot) should be able to get
along with the other animals.
What you
should do:
You should clip the
cat's nails to be on the safe side.
Introduce the cat to
the dog (or other animal) though supervision. * Do this only if dog
is trained to be still*
Why it
works:
If introduced early,
kittens will make friends with almost any living creature, including humans,
dogs, other cats, hamsters, rabbits, etc.
Early handling by humans
and "gentle" introduction to other animals are very important to develop
the cat's social skills.
